2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Ranking Announced
Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) Strengthens Its Success in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Ranking
The Impact Ranking, published annually by Times Higher Education (THE), is an international ranking that evaluates universities based on their efforts aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this ranking, universities are scored according to their performance across 17 SDG targets.
The Impact Ranking assessment focuses primarily on four main pillars:
Research: The contributions of universities to achieving SDGs through sustainability-related research.
Governance (Stewardship): Evaluation of how universities manage and protect not only their physical resources but also academic staff, students, and employees.
Community Engagement (Interaction): The importance of cooperation and interaction with local, regional, and international communities in promoting sustainability.
Education: The role of universities in training qualified experts for SDGs and equipping all graduates with fundamental sustainability knowledge.
Karadeniz Technical University’s 2025 Achievement
Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) has strengthened its position in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Ranking. The university ranked in the 1001-1500 band among 2318 institutions worldwide and increased its total score compared to the previous year.
Overall Score and Highlighted Performance Areas
KTÜ’s overall score rose to 57.8, reflecting its impactful work on sustainability at an international level.
The university’s top-performing areas and SDG data are as follows:
SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: Positioned in the 301-400 ranking band, with its score increasing from 63 to 66.
SDG 13 – Climate Action: Ranked in the 301-400 band, with a significant score increase from 40.3 to 50.3; this was the most notable improvement.
SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy: KTÜ remained in the 201-300 band, with a slight decrease in score from 60.2 to 57.7.
Additionally, in SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, the university increased its score from 39.8 last year to 43.6, highlighting its growing commitment to sustainability partnerships.
KTÜ’s progress in the 2025 Impact Ranking demonstrates the university’s strong efforts in research, education, and community engagement toward sustainable development goals. KTÜ continues to strengthen its position on the international stage and remains a leading institution in the field of sustainability.
